A fantastic field watch at a compelling price
This is a great field watch! This is my first time owning a Timex, and I have to say I'm impressed. I've owned a handful of Casio watches, a Seiko, and an Orient, and I wanted to give Timex a try. I've owned watches that cost more than 5 times the roughly $30 I paid for this one, and while this is definitely not in the same league as a Seiko or an Orient, I am very pleased with it. I've been wanting a field watch for awhile now to have as a more casual analog option, and this fits the bill perfectly. It's water resistant to 50 meters, it came with a comfortable NATO strap, and it has luminous hands as well as Timex's Indiglo feature, which is Timex's backlight technology that illuminates the full dial. So if you need to check the time in the dark, simply press the crown and the full dial will light up, which adds to practicality.

This Timex expedition has a metal case, and I'd recommend it over the other expeditions that have a resin case, as the resin case expeditions have a notoriously loud tick and this one is a good bit quieter. The build quality is also noticeably better than the resin case models. I plan to use this as my daily driver/beater watch at work because it's simple and good looking, and is cheap enough that if it gets damaged it's not a big deal. Time accuracy is great as well, considering it's a quartz watch.

Overall, if you're in the market for a field watch that is practical, affordable, and good looking, this is the watch for you.

Sharp looks, great features and insane value
This is a good-looking watch. The looks are true to the WWII aesthetic that inspire many watch designs today from affordable to top-tier. Modern manufacturing provides quality and value that's on par with much more expensive watches. The robust and quality leather band surprised me. It's all wearing well and the push-button Indiglow feature lights up the entire watch face. And water resistant to 50m to boot! I'm a pretty demanding/picky shopper and I just keep looking at this and thinking wow. Highly recommended. The 40mm case seemed a little large at first but I've gotten used to it and it provides numbers large enough to easily read with a glance.

Good looking watch with a rugged look and feel.
I haven't been wearing watches for several years but when I saw this I just had to have it. In a world where there are clocks on our phones, our tablets, our laptops and computers I asked myself why do I need a watch? I pretty much summed it up as this. Wearing a watch is a classy, manly thing and I really did miss wearing a watch everyday. So let's start again with a new watch. Besides, I now don't find myself digging in my pocket for my phone when someone asks me what time is it or when I need to look to see if my if I am running on time to a secret meeting with another covert operative for beers.

This Timex has a classic design, with a rugged looking band that appears to be easily replaced down the road. I've only had it less than a week. But it feels like I have been wearing it for much longer than 5 days. I barely notice this on my wrist until I see it peeking out from my shirt sleeve or when I need to check the time. It has a solid feel to it but it doesn't feel heavy or cumbersome. I used to have a bad habit of catching watches on door frames while walking through doorways but I have yet to have this issue with this watch. Perhaps that might change when short sleeve weather comes around?

The canvas style band is something new to me and I will have to get used to latching it. With one hole the band is too loose on my wrist and the next hole the band is almost too tight. I do not fault the watch for that small issue. After all, we are all built differently. Will the band stretch in time like my previous watches with leather bands or will it retain its current size? Perhaps in a few weeks or months I will know the answer to that question. As far as looks are concerned it has a classic military look and a rugged feel but by no means does it look like I'm trying to be tacticool. It is classic enough to be worn in the office, casually or in the park or at the beach. You could probably dress this up with a nice leather band for more formal office occasions or situations. But that is just a guess. It was instantly noticed by a few guys at work the first day I wore it into the office. Could it be that they are used to seeing me without a watch or just that it had a nice appeal to it? My wife likes the way it looks on me too. In other words, she didn't dismiss it as some trendy accessory and had nice things to say about the price.

What about the Indiglo? Well in the dark it is easily readable. In somewhat dim light the hands seem to reflect enough light they they blend into the background and can be hard to see. But it is easier read without the indiglo in those situations. I really like the yellow seconds hand too. not too bright and just subtle enough to stick out of the black background. Does it keep accurate time? Since I set it after opening the box it appears to keep accurate time. It matches time with my Citizen, Fossil watches as well as my iPhone. If it loses any time I have yet to notice.

What about the loud ticking? I don't hear it unless I put the watch up to my ear then it makes an audible tick. I have yet to hear it sitting on the nightstand next to my bed or even while wearing it. I have yet to get it wet, sweaty, dirty or banged up. But give me time, it will happen, I assure you. We will see if it stands up to regular daily use after I give it a thorough going over. I think with the classic styling of this watch it will look just as good with nicks and scratches as it does brand new. I am sure to add pictures and a follow up review down the road. I really like this watch and hope it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

I researched, shopped, and this is THE watch I decided to buy! I LOVE IT!
It's been over 20 years that I have owned a watch. I'm tired of having to locate my cell phone just to check the time. I decided its time for a watch! So, I started researching and researching, reviewing reviews and truly spent lots of time deciding on what the perfect watch to buy would be. I considered expensive, inexpensive, Swiss made, non Swiss made and after deciding to find a solar, best for the money watch I purchased this watch!

I researched so many watches at every price point and style. The great reviews, style and price point brought me to TIMEX. I decided as this is my first watch in years so best keep it budget.

I was considering the Indiglo Timex as I have always loved to cool glow but I ran across the Solar Timex. To be clear you loose the indiglo option will ALL Solar Timex watches so its a trade off, do you want indiglo or solar power and no battery changes? My research suggest I may get a crazy amount of life out of this watch with the solar power. Im not one to take a watch in to get a battery replaced and as I understand the more you use the indiglo the quicker I would need to change out a battery, Thats a no go for me so SOLAR TIMEX it is!

The hands and numbers of this watch will glow after being in light but that glow fades quick, As far as the watch itself , I love the styling. My family loves the look. This watch is a blackish brass with a stainless back and a real lens so its a great watch for the money that I expect will last me years! My fist thought was I wanted a green band watch and may buy a green band one day but the color of this band looks better on me than in the pictures, the color is growing on me. The watch is somewhat larger that I expected on my medium size male wrist but I don't think I would want a smaller watch after a few days of ownership. The date is small for my old eyes but thats not a deal breaker at all.

I think this is a very classy sporty everyday looking non fancy watch and solar is the way to go! Who wants to take a watch to a shop to have the battery changed every few years? Im very happy my extensive research made me choose this watch.

I'm as happy with this watch as I would be with one of those mega expensive import jobs as this thing looks and feels fantastic! I feel I got way more than I paid for buying this watch.

When I was considering expensive I decided with the fact it's been years that I have used a watch I better make sure a watch on my arm won't bother me. I'm happy to report this is a very comfortable watch and I see zero need to spend more as this is the perfect price point of you get a good solar watch and looks good and feels good so I have no real need for anything more premium.

With this watch I get a known name brand quartz movement thats solar and based on some reviews I hope to perhaps get 5-10 years or more life out of this watch and solar battery. I needed the stainless steel back and I wanted a leather band.

I find I am actually proud of my new watch! Anyone remember the 1950's saying... “ TIMEX, It takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking”
