Great if it’s on sale.
In spite of the title keep in mind the watch is good and worth the money. It’s comfortable even if you tighten it down a smidge more than you ought to. It doesn’t slip or slide, handles limited water exposure without issue in my experience, hand washing and being caught in the rain mostly, still haven’t tried swimming with it.
The display is good, readable, the instructions are clear and plenty easy to follow. Definetly quicker to check the time with a glance at the wrist than to drag out your phone.
In and out of freezers hasn’t done any overtly obvious damage to it.

Perfect everyday watch
Love the easy to read display. Looks fantastic and is very comfortable. Price point is perfect for a watch that will be worn daily and can take a little abuse. The watch has already survived bangs on metal and wood objects without scratching. Strap survived being hung on by a three year old kid. Buttons are kind of hard to press unless you use your fingernail but it doesn't bother me much. So far, I just take it off at night. No issues with hand washing and showering daily.

 I finally found you~!
This is what my husband has to say:

Been reading online for the past two weeks trying to figure out which watch to buy. I became interested with the Invicta submariner homage, then moved my way over to Orient Mako, then to Seiko SKX173, and finally I was going to be happy with a Seiko Monster. However, by chance I saw a digital watch in one of the recommended listings on Amazon. I started thinking about the purpose of owning a watch and my conclusion was simple - to tell time...accurately. Automatic watches are great for people who appreciate the engineering involved in creating such timepieces. The only qualm I have with these watches is they are not precise...and they are delicate...and they need maintenance. Thus my search for the ultimate watch began. This week long journey ultimately brought me back to the first watch manufacturer I've ever owned - Casio. Growing up, my Casio would be on my wrist through many adventures, be it climbing a tree...then falling down shortly after, or swimming in the Pacific Ocean, or in a math test in class...I got an A by the way =) I started looking for a simple yet rugged Casio...and guess what? I finally found it~!

The Casio DW5600E-1V is an amazing watch. When I got this bad boy out of the box, I was amazed by how much better it looks in person vs pictures online. Trust me everyone, the pictures simply don't do justice. I began setting the time and noticed the adjust button was recessed. This worried me because I thought I got a defective watch. But alas, after some research I found out this was the design Casio had intended. I strapped this new watch on and was blown away...again~! I love the fact that it's not overly bulky and does not dig into my wrist. The digits are big enough so that one can tell time in a glance. A plus about this particular model is that the day, date, and time are displayed on the same screen. The illumination is perfect. It was bright enough that I used it as my light source earlier this evening to help my wife differentiate the right key to open the door. I appreciate the fact that the countdown timer in this model allows one to adjust the second, minute, and hour. The other models...for some strange reason only has a 60 minute CTD...yet they have a stopwatch that can count till all the digits become 9. What gives? I do not plan on using the alarm on this watch very often, but in the moments that I do, I like how it's not overly complicated i.e. 5 different alarms. This watch is durable yet light and has a big screen to tell time yet does not dominate my 6.75 inch wrist. I've only had my DW5600 for two days but I know it will serve as my accurate and durable timepiece for many new adventures to come.

Casio DW-5600 is a reliable, affordable, and bomb-proof watch.
I’ve owned a Casio Men’s G-Shock DW5600 and its predecessor since the early 1970’s. The Casio DW-5600E that I am replacing is at least 15+ years old; and I’ve had to replace the battery and the watchband at least 3x’s. When I replaced the battery and the watchband last year, I decided that the next time they need to be replaced, I would buy a brand new DW-5600. Last week, the watchband broke so I bought a new DW-5600E-1V.

The only difference that I could tell between my old DW-5600E and the new DW-5600E-1V is the country of origin. My old one was made in China. The new one is made in Thailand. Other than that, there is no obvious difference.

I primarily use the Casio DW-5600E for swimming, kayaking, hiking, overseas traveling, etc. For traveling, it doesn’t attract too much attention (i.e., $$$ bling) and the functions are useful (e.g. alarm, stop watch). I like the Casio resin strap especially in wet and humid environments since it doesn’t irritate my skin. (NOTE: Always replace the Casio resin strap with an OEM Casio resin strap. Aftermarket non-Casio straps are too stiff, brittle, and uncomfortable; and will break).

There is a solar powered version of this watch, but I prefer the battery one. The alarm, stop watch, and the backlight function will drain the battery quicker, but from my experience, the battery will last 5 years. (NOTE: When the backlight function does NOT illuminate or it is dim, that’s the cue or signal that the battery needs to be replaced.)

I always replace the Casio DW-5600 battery at a watch repair shop since the battery replacement isn’t the easiest thing for me to do. It cost about US$10-15, but the watch repair shop will do a pressure check and replace the gasket if necessary. The watch repair shop will also check the freshness of the replacement battery before inserting. If I did NOT have an affordable local watch repair shop to do the battery replacement, I’d probably buy a solar powered version of this watch.

The fact that Casio has kept the DW-5600 available for so many years without any design or function change is a testament to it popularity. I'd BUY IT AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN.

Never wore a watch until the G-Shock
I'm in my 60s usually get a few miles of open water swimming in Lake Michigan each week during the summer months. I've never worn a watch but was looking for a way to time my swims. I ordered the Timex Ironman since it was the cheapest with a good rating and the order got delayed. I was reading a trashy spy/special-ops novel and one of the characters was wearing a G-Shock. I had never heard of it :-). Anyway, did a little research and got hooked. I bought the basic DW5600E-1V and love it. Did my maiden voyage with it the other day and it's fantastic. I was not sure if it would bother me, my normal swim is a mile and maybe ~40 minutes in the water. I could check my time throughout looking at it underwater, and it was super comfortable. I love this thing and i'm wearing it all the time. I can't push the timer reset button with my stubby fingers with no nails, so I take it off to reset it using anything handy, like the tip of the band. I thought that might be an issue, but really not. Love the watch, truly great product!
